Alas, a wooden tug is a liability in an age of steel ships. Lovely as she is, there isn't a lot of work for them: Maintenance being problematical. She progressively went downhill and joined Michael Swann's navy in Port Chalmers. Bereft of business ethics he may be but he had good taste in boats.
When Swann was convicted of fraud, the liquidators moved pdq and dumped Hikurangi for a giveaway price and threw in Arataki as well.
Poor Arataki was scrapped over time to fund Hikurangi's refit.
